From Concept to Mailbox: The Custom Invitation Design Process

Between managing venues, dates, and guest counts, there are a lot of moving pieces to navigate while planning your wedding.

Designing your custom stationery shouldn't add to the noise.

To help me build the most accurate proposal for your custom wedding invitations, it’s incredibly helpful to have a baseline idea of the following details:

  1. Final Household Count: You only need one complete invitation suite per household, not per individual guest.

  2. The "Just in Case" Extra: Always include a buffer of 10–15 additional prints for your wedding photographer and unexpected guest additions.

  3. The Inserts: Decide which details require a dedicated card (RSVP, reception venue maps, or rehearsal dinner itineraries).

  4. Custom Textures: Think about the tactile details you love, from custom wax seals to elegant belly bands.

  5. Printing Methods: Consider whether your aesthetic tilts toward premium letterpress, modern foil, or flat digital print design.

The Inquiry Process

Time to relax and let the RSVPs start rolling in

Booking, Proofing and Production Process

Phase 1: INquire & Lock It In

  • Gathering the Vibe: Start thinking about the overall visual direction of your wedding—your colors, the venue's style, and the general mood you want to set.

  • The Custom Proposal: Fill out the inquiry form, and I’ll put together a tailored proposal and baseline estimate specific to your project needs.

  • Refine & Adjust: We’ll look over the estimate together, make any tweaks to ensure it fits your vision perfectly, and get your final nod.

  • Officially Booked: Sign your project agreement, submit the initial deposit, and your spot on my design calendar is officially secured.

Phase 2: Timelines & First Looks

  • Your Master Schedule: I’ll send over a clear project timeline packed with all your important milestones, due dates, and proofing schedules so you always know what's next.

  • The Initial Design: I’ll dive into the studio and create your first design concepts based on your style notes, layout preferences, and venue details.

Phase 3: Edits & Proofing

  • Digital Proofing: You’ll receive digital mockups of your invitations to review. This is where we collaborate, fine-tune the typography, and make adjustments until it’s exactly right.

  • The Final Sign-Off: Once every single comma, color, and address is completely perfect, you’ll sign off on your Final Printing Proof to greenlight the design.

Phase 4: Print & Delivery

  • Off to the Presses: Your invitation suite officially moves into production, where all the paper, ink, and custom printing methods come to life.

  • Assembly & Mailing: If you opted for assembly services, I will meticulously assemble, stuff, seal, and mail your invitations directly to your guests.

  • Your Keepsake Box: Any extra suites—plus a pristine copy saved perfectly for your wedding photographer—will be safely shipped straight to your door.

The average Joy Unscripted Bride invests:

$750 for Save the Dates
$2,500+ for invitations

Let's skip the guesswork. When it comes to custom stationery, the question on everyone's mind is naturally, "What is the actual investment?"

Most Joy Unscripted clients spend an average of $X,XXX+ for a baseline order of 100 custom invitation suites. This typically includes your main invitation, RSVP card, details card, and coordinating mailing envelopes.

Because every wedding is entirely unique, your final pricing will vary based on your exact guest count and the custom elements you choose to add—like luxury envelope liners, custom wax seals, handwritten envelope calligraphy, or premium print upgrades.
